ōṁ bha̲draṁ karṇḗbhiḥ śr̥ṇu̲yāmá dēvāḥ
bha̲draṁ páśyēmā̲kṣabhi̲ryajátrāḥ
sthi̲rairaṅgaìstuṣṭu̲vāgṁ sásta̲nūbhíḥ
vyaśḗma dē̲vahíta̲ṁ yadāyúḥ
sva̲sti na̲ indrṓ vr̥̲ddhaśrávāḥ
sva̲sti náḥ pū̲ṣā vi̲śvavḗdāḥ
sva̲sti na̲stārkṣyō̲ aríṣṭanēmiḥ
sva̲sti nō̲ br̥ha̲spatírdadhātu || ōṁ śānti̲ḥ śānti̲ḥ śāntíḥ ||
O Gods, may we always hear good and blessed things
May our eyes behold only auspicious and holy sights
May our limbs be firm and steady as we praise and worship
May we live out our God-given lives in divine service
May the great and glorious Indra bless us with all-around well-being
May Pushan, the all-knowing nourisher, grant us prosperity
May Tarksya, the divine bird who destroys misfortune, protect and bless us
May Brihaspati bestow well-being on us. Om, may there be peace at all levels — physical, divine and spiritual
ōṁ namástē ga̲ṇapátayē
tvamē̲va pra̲tyakṣa̲ṁ tattvámasi

You are the directly perceptible Truth — "That Thou Art"
You alone are the sole doer and creator of everything
You alone are the sole supporter who holds everything together
You alone are the sole destroyer who dissolves all back into the Self
You are everything in this universe — You are the supreme Brahman
You are the eternal Soul, directly perceptible within us always

I speak what is right and in accordance with the divine law

Protect both the teacher who recites and the disciple who follows
Protect me from the West
Protect me from the East
Protect me from the North
Protect me from the South
Protect me from above
Protect me from below
Protect me completely from all directions, all around
tvaṁ vāṅmayástvaṁ cinma̲yaḥ
tvamānandamayástvaṁ brahma̲mayaḥ
tvaṁ saccidānandādvítīyō̲:'si
tvaṁ pra̲tyakṣa̲ṁ brahmā́si
tvaṁ jñānamayō vijñānámayō̲:'si ||
You are the embodiment of speech and pure consciousness
You are the embodiment of bliss and Brahman
You are the one and only Sat-Chit-Ananda (Existence-Consciousness-Bliss), without equal
You are Brahman made visibly manifest before us
You are the embodiment of wisdom and the power to make us see the divine in everything
sarvaṁ jagadidaṁ tváttō jā̲yatē
sarvaṁ jagadidaṁ tváttasti̲ṣṭhati
sarvaṁ jagadidaṁ tvayi layámēṣya̲ti
sarvaṁ jagadidaṁ tvayí pratyē̲ti
tvaṁ bhūmirāpō:'nalō:'nílō na̲bhaḥ
tvaṁ catvāri vā̀kpadā̲ni ||
The whole world is born from You
The whole world exists and is sustained by You
The whole world will ultimately be absorbed back into You
Everything in this world ultimately returns and merges back into You
You are all five elements — earth, water, fire, air and space
You are all four levels of speech
tvaṁ gu̲ṇatráyātī̲taḥ
tvamavasthātráyātī̲taḥ
tvaṁ dē̲hatráyātī̲taḥ
tvaṁ kā̲latráyātī̲taḥ
tvaṁ mūlādhārasthitṓ:'si ni̲tyam
tvaṁ śaktitráyātma̲kaḥ
tvāṁ yōginō dhyāyánti ni̲tyam
tvaṁ brahmā tvaṁ viṣṇustvaṁ rudrastvamindrastvamagnistvaṁ vāyustvaṁ sūryastvaṁ candramāstvaṁ brahma̲ bhūrbhuva̲ḥ sva̲rōm ||
You transcend the three qualities of nature: purity, passion and inertia
You transcend the three states of consciousness: waking, dream and deep sleep
You transcend the three bodies: physical, subtle and causal
You transcend all three periods of time: past, present and future
You eternally dwell in the Muladhara chakra at the base of the spine
You embody the three divine powers: will, action and knowledge
Yogis constantly meditate on You to attain the highest realization
You are all gods — Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Indra, Fire, Wind, Sun and Moon; You are the supreme Brahman in all the three worlds; You are Om
ga̲ṇādìṁ pūrvámuccā̲rya̲ va̲rṇādī̀ṁstadana̲ntáram
anusvāraḥ párata̲raḥ
ardhḕndula̲sitam
tārḗṇa r̥̲ddham
ētattava manúsvarū̲pam ||
First sound the letter "G" from the word "Gana", then add the vowel "A" to make "Ga"
Then add the nasal Anuswara sound to get "Gam"
Then it is adorned with the half-moon crescent mark (chandrabindu), making "Gaṅ"
This is then enriched by the Tara (Om), giving "Om Gaṁ"
This "Om Gaṁ" is Your very mantra form
gakāraḥ pū̀rvarū̲pam
akārō madhyámarū̲pam
anusvāraścā̀ntyarū̲pam
binduruttárarū̲pam
nādáḥ sandhā̲nam
sagṁhítā sa̲ndhiḥ ||
The letter "G" is the first part of Your mantra form
The letter "A" is the middle part of Your mantra form
The Anuswara is the final part, completing the mantra
The Bindu (dot) on top gives the nasal resonance above
This is united with the cosmic sound (Nada)
All these forms merge together into the complete, transcendent mantra sound
saiṣā gaṇḗśavi̲dyā
gaṇáka r̥̲ṣiḥ
nicr̥dgāyátrīccha̲ndaḥ
gaṇapatírdēva̲tā
ōṁ gaṁ ga̲ṇapátayē namaḥ ||
This is the sacred knowledge of Ganesha
Ganaka Rishi is the sage who received this knowledge
The metre of this verse is Nichrid Gayatri
Lord Ganapati is the presiding deity
Om, I bow in reverence to Ganapati with the bija mantra "Gam"
ēkada̲ntāyá vi̲dmahḗ vakratu̲ṇḍāyá dhīmahi
tannṓ dantiḥ pracō̲dayā̀t ||
We seek to know the single-tusked one; we meditate on the curved-trunk Lord
May that tusked Lord inspire and illuminate our minds
ēkada̲ntaṁ cáturha̲sta̲ṁ pā̲śamáṅkuśa̲ dhāríṇam
radáṁ ca̲ varádaṁ ha̲stai̲rbi̲bhrāṇáṁ mūṣa̲kadhvájam
raktáṁ la̲ṁbōdáraṁ śū̲rpa̲ka̲rṇakáṁ rakta̲vāsásam
raktága̲ndhānúliptā̲ṅga̲ṁ ra̲ktapúṣpaiḥ su̲pūjítam
bhaktā́nu̲kampínaṁ dē̲va̲ṁ ja̲gatkā́raṇa̲macyútam
āvírbhū̲taṁ cá sr̥̲ṣṭyā̲dau̲ pra̲kr̥tḕḥ puru̲ṣātpáram
ēváṁ dhyā̲yatí yō ni̲tya̲ṁ sa̲ yōgī́ yōgi̲nāṁ váraḥ ||
He has one tusk and four hands — two of which hold a noose and a goad
His third hand holds a broken tusk, His fourth grants boons; His banner displays a rat
He has a reddish glow, a large belly, ears like fans, and wears red clothes
He is smeared with red-scented paste and lovingly worshipped with red flowers
He is the compassionate Lord who feels for His devotees, the eternal cause of all creation
He appeared at the very dawn of creation, born of Supreme Purusha beyond Prakriti
One who meditates on Him daily in this manner is the greatest of all Yogis

Salutations to the Lord of all people and assemblies
Salutations to Ganapati, the master of all divine attendants
Salutations to the Lord of the Pramathas, Shiva's divine hosts
Salutations to You — the large-bellied, single-tusked remover of obstacles, son of Shiva, and bestower of boons
ētadatharvaśīrṣáṁ yō:'dhī̲tē
sa brahmabhūyā́ya ka̲lpatē
sa sarvatra sukhámēdha̲tē
sa sarvavighnairna bā̲dhyatē
sa pañcamahāpāpā̀t pramu̲cyatē
sā̲yamádhīyā̲nō̲ divasakr̥taṁ pāpáṁ nāśa̲yati
prā̲táradhīyā̲nō̲ rātrikr̥taṁ pāpáṁ nāśa̲yati
sāyaṁ prātaḥ práyuñjā̲nō̲ pāpō:'pā́pō bha̲vati
sarvatrādhīyānō:'pavíghnō bha̲vati
dharmārthakāmamōkṣáṁ ca vi̲ndati
idamatharvaśīrṣamaśiṣyāyá na dē̲yam
yō yadi mṓhāddā̲syati
sa pāpī́yān bha̲vati
sahasrāvartanādyaṁ yaṁ kāmámadhī̲tē
taṁ tamanḗna sā̲dhayēt ||
Whoever studies this Atharvashirsha sincerely becomes qualified to attain Brahman
He becomes worthy of attaining the supreme state of Brahman
He experiences increasing happiness and well-being everywhere
He will not be troubled or obstructed by any obstacles
He becomes liberated from the five great sins
Reciting this in the evening wipes out all sins committed during that day
Reciting this in the morning wipes out all sins committed during that night
One who recites it both morning and evening becomes free from all sin
One who studies it in all situations becomes free from obstacles
He attains righteousness, prosperity, desire-fulfilment and ultimate liberation
This Atharvashirsha must not be given to an unworthy or faithless person
If anyone gives it out of ignorance or delusion to an unworthy person
That person becomes sinful
By reciting and studying this a thousand times with deep contemplation
All those desired ends will be accomplished through this
anēna gaṇapatimábhiṣi̲ñcati
sa vā́gmī bha̲vati
caturthyāmanáśnan ja̲pati
sa vidyā́vān bha̲vati
ityatharváṇa vā̲kyam
brahmādyā̲varáṇaṁ vi̲dyānna bibhēti kadā́canē̲ti ||
One who performs the abhisheka of Ganapati with this Upanishad
becomes eloquent and a master of words
One who recites this on Chaturthi while fasting
becomes truly learned and filled with divine knowledge
These are the words declared by the Atharvana Rishi
He who knows the divine veil of Brahman fears nothing at any time
yō dūrvāṅkúrairya̲jati
sa vaiśravaṇōpámō bha̲vati
yō lā́jairya̲jati
sa yaśṓvān bha̲vati
sa mēdhā́vān bha̲vati
yō mōdakasahasrḗṇa ya̲jati
sa vāñchita phalamávāpnō̲ti
yaḥ sājya samídbhirya̲jati
sa sarvaṁ labhatē sa sárvaṁ la̲bhatē ||
One who offers worship with fresh Durva grass sprouts
becomes as wealthy and prosperous as Kubera
One who offers worship with puffed/parched rice
gains great fame and glory
He also gains a sharp, retentive intelligence
One who offers a thousand Modaka sweets in worship
attains all his cherished desires
One who performs homa with ghee-soaked fuel sticks
obtains everything — truly, everything
aṣṭau brāhmaṇān samyag grā́hayi̲tvā sūryavarcásvī bha̲vati
sūryagrahē máhāna̲dyāṁ pratimā sannidhau vā ja̲ptvā siddhamántrō bha̲vati
mahāvighnā̀t pramu̲cyatē
mahādōṣā̀t pramu̲cyatē
mahāpratyavāyā̀t pramu̲cyatē
sa sarvavidbhavati sa sarvávidbha̲vati
ya ḗvaṁ vē̲da
ityúpa̲niṣát ||
One who teaches this Upanishad properly to eight Brahmins shines with the radiance of the Sun
One who recites this during a solar eclipse at a great river or before Ganapati's image attains mastery of the mantra
He is freed from great and mighty obstacles
He is freed from great faults and transgressions
He is freed from great accumulated sins and karmic burdens
He becomes truly all-knowing — again and again it is affirmed: he becomes all-knowing
He who knows this thus knows the highest Veda
Thus concludes this Upanishad
ōṁ śānti̲ḥ śānti̲ḥ śāntíḥ ||
